One of my rituals is the nightly walk on my rooftop. When bedtime comes near, I put my phone to sleep in its electric bed and dim the lights in my room. Then, I put some boots on and climb the stairs to the attic and further up to the rooftop. Watching the city lights, and sometimes the stars and the moon, too, the last lingering thoughts of the day have space to unfold, to be brought upfront in my mind, to be thought to their end and to sink back into my unconscious. It's truly liberating and euphoric at times, but other times I expect too much and just leave the rooftop after a while, bringing my thoughts back into bed with me. Sometimes we like to keep company.
